Overview of the installation process

The installation process for a CHARP Maxi is straightforward:

In normal circumstances, the Maxi’s will automatically start communicating with the CHARP platform within a few hours after the gateways have been powered on.

If that doesn't happen, read this section for clarification

Getting to know the hardware

A CHARP Maxi setup consists of CHARP gateways, which relay the data from CHARP Maxi loggers to the CHARP application, ****and CHARP Maxi loggers, which measure environmental parameters in their vicinity.

CHARP Gateway

The CHARP gateway is responsible for relaying the data from CHARP Maxi loggers towards CHARP’s cloud application. The gateway deploys a private, long-range LoRaWAN network on your site. This LoRaWAN network is used by the CHARP Maxi loggers to send information to the gateway.

The gateway itself requires power to operate. It uses an internet connection (WAN) via Ethernet (primary backhaul) and a preconfigured mobile 4G connection (secondary backhaul) to relay the data from the CHARP Maxi loggers back to the CHARP cloud application.

By default, the LoRaWAN gateway is configured to use the mobile 4G connection to forward data to the Charp application. This renders the monitoring system fully autonomous - no need to involve IT teams to integrate the system with the local network.
